Sometimes when I pull out and make a right I don't get the return on the steering wheel. On the highway around the wheel jerks to left & right and I must compensate for it. Doesn't seem to do it at lower speeds. I DO need a front end alignment but this feels differant

What you described is typical of a tight or binding front outer universal joint. Usually they're bad enough that you can see reddish-colored rust stains near one of the bearing caps. If you jack that tire off the ground, you'll find if you try to rotate the wheel by hand, it's going to want to return to centered.
