2004 Ford Explorer Hey Got Model That Won T Come Out Park S Been This Way

Hey I got a Ford Explorer 2004 model that won't come out of park. It's been this way for about a week now.

My buddy managed to get it out of park by mashing the brakes really hard but that's no real fix..

Any ideas?

PS: Don't think it's the engine seeing you can mash the brakes to get it out of park.

have your shift interlock system checked it may be out of adjustment or apart worn.
