When pulling in and out of a parking spot and re-appling the gass seems to clunk/ bind/ pop dealers says normal

Not normal. Check CV joints, make sure you are not in 4wd, check u-joints.

This is a awd dealer says normal/common on the 2004 explorer the awd is kicking in due to very tight turn and giving it gas @ the same time people in the parking lock even look to see what the noise is

I don't feel that is the cause. I have driven many AWD's and they don't do that. I feel you may have a bad CV joint.

I have the same issue with my 2003, except it only does it when I put it in 4 wheel drive. When in "4 automatic" it does not. I assume there is no power to the front wheels under normal conditions when in "4 automatic". Straight line or gentle turns in 4X4 no problem, but 90 degree or u-turns, very bad clunking and popping under acceleration. I'm also looking for the most likely cause. Thanks!
