I have a 2004 Expedition. The engine began to whine like the power steering was going out, however this has progressed so that now the engine loses power and has trouble accelerating. Any thoughts on possible problem?

Have you verified the fluid level? If so, then you are probably looking at a problem with the pump.

Yes, if it is putting resistance on the belt from a binding pump.
