I ran out of gas, , but when I put more gas in the car it still would not crank. I checked all fuses, which were good, and I also put a new fuel pump on. The car still didn't crank. What could be the reason for this.

THE FUEL PUMP IS COOLED, BEING SURROUNDED BY LIQUID FUEL (GAS)

SOMETIMES YOU BURN THEM UP WHEN IT GETS DRY IN THERE

TO RULE THIS POSSIBILITY EITHER "IN" OR "OUT"

NORMALLY THE PUMP COMES ON AND RUNS FOR A SECOND OR TWO (TO BUILD FUEL PRESSURE) WHEN YOU TURN THE KEY TO "ON"

MANY FOLKS DON'T PAY ATTENTION, BECAUSE THEY ROLL IT ON OVER TO "START"IT FIRES UP. AND THEY "GO"!

WHEN THE PUMP COMES ON FOR THE FEW SECONDS ("ON" POSITION OF KEY) IF YOUR ENVIRONMENT IS SORTA QUIET---YOU CAN HEAR IT "HUMMM", THEN GO OFF

IF YOU AIN'T SURE---POP YOUR FUEL CAP OFF, HAVE SOMEONE TURN THE KEY TO "ON", LISTEN CLOSE TO THE FUEL NECK FOR THE "HUMMM"

(YOU MIGHT TRY THIS IN ANOTHER "GOOD TO GO" CAR TO SEE WHAT I MEAN)

IF YOU HEAR IT----THE PUMP MAY BE OK

IF YOU DON'T---WORST CASE WOULD BE "FRIED PUMP"

LEMME KNOW YOUR FINDINGS, I'LL CONTINUE TO TRY TO FIND OTHER POSSIBILITIES

OTHER FELLERS WHO ANSWER HERE, MAY ALSO JUMP IN AND ASSIST, SO WATCH FOR "NAME CHANGES" AS ANSWERS FLOW IN
