i recently purchased a 2004 Dodge Stratus SE when its first started there is a very obvious knocking noise in the engine. The car drives fine and there is no other problems with lights being on or anything. However, when accelerating the knocking noise becomes more of a ticking when stepping on the the gas.

An audible ticking during acceleration is often nothing more than an exhaust leak. As for the knocking you're hearing, does that only occur at start-up and not after the first ten seconds of engine operation?
