2004 Dodge Ram 1500 Emergency Brake Froze Trying Repair Stretched Out Springs

My 2004 Ram 1500 emergency brake froze up and when trying to repair, I stretched out the springs for the Emergency Brake. Will I have to remove the positraction rear axle to change out those springs or is there an easier way to do this.
