I am looking into buying an 04 Seabring LTD 2 Dr C
2.7l V6 Mpi Dohc Is there any way of knowing if this auto has the dreaded oil sludge problem or cooling system problems?

The only real way to find out is to remove the front valve cover and look at the condition under it.

Is this something I can do myself at the dealership? Or do I need a man to do this for me?

No, this is a mechanical procedure that will likely require a new gasket. I'm sure they will not allow you to do that to their car.

I understand your concern but the procedure to check is rather invasive to the engine.
