When the air is turned on, the car at idle, the engine bogs down when the compressor clutch activates. Clutch will only stay active for 1 - 2 seconds at a time. Do I need a new compressor or can the clutch be replaced, or is it simply in need of charging. Thank you in advance for your advice

How long since a tune-up? Check idle air system, clean idle air passages. Clean throttle valve. Usually underload at idle, the computer should increase the idle.

If the compressor is kicking on and off, usually because not enough refrigerant.
