what could cause a strong gasoline odor at the rear of an 04 tahoe

A stron smeel of fuel at the rear will proberbly be a leak, it may be on top of the tank or at the filler neck, you will have to check this carfully, are there any stains on the tank that could indicatew a leak up higher ?
