i have a cracked line in the gas tank the mechanic wants to replace the whole fuel system including the tank, is that necessary?

On a 2004 it is unlikely that the whole line needs replacing. They sell the whole line as one piece. It is up to you tohave him just repair it or go for a whole line. Ask the mechanic why he suggests on a complete line. He will probably tell you that the line is under a lot of pressure.
