-5 outside and the car is making a high pitch noise from the engine, I turned off the fans and accelerated and it stopped for a little while but the car didn't run long enough to see if it goes away. Is this a serious issue or is this due to the extreme cold weather?

Can you tell if it is from the belt area or power steering. The power steering will make a whine noise when really cold. You could have a slipping belt or noisy belt. Check the condition of the belt for cracks.
