engine stalls like its out of gas

i bought a 2004 chevy classic it broke down the first day i got it it acted like it was out of gas i no it wasnt but i got gas still wouldnt start then the battery was dead i got a jump and it still wouldnt start

Check for spark and fuel pressure.
