Why would it use oil at 72000 miles

depends on how much it's using, 1000 mi to a quart isn't bad but check yoru pcv system first and pull valve cover off and look for sludge in top of head, if it is cleanit out and make sure drain holes are not clogged. normally it's a pcv valve or a blockec pcv hose.
