sputtering and shifting code of P2231

When Im driving the car is sputtering an shifting weird. a code of P2231 whcih is an oxygen sensor circuit came up but what does that code have to do with the strange shifting an unbalanced timing? could it be my ecm

An engine performance problem will affect how the transmission shifts, have you had a tune up recently?
