2004 BMW X5 Red Brake Light

The red brake light on the dashboard came on during the week and the dash read "check brake linings". I looked at the brake pads, front and back wheels, they seemed to have plenty of pad left. What else could it be?

The inner pad has a sensor on it. If it touches the rotor, it will turn the light on. They seem to actuate the warning while there is still aprox 4/32 of brake pad left. That is my guess as to what is happening.
