The car 2003 Volvo runs but there is a knocking noise, is this serious?

car was well taken care of engines starts and runs but knocking noise is heard coming from the engine it sounds like.

Engine knock can often be a failed bearing on the crank shaft, if this is the case the engine if run much further will do serious damage.

If this is a none turbo engine then you most likely have been driving it with no oil. I agree with mhpautos that you will be damaging the crank shaft. Very common on none turbo engines to consume oil.
