There's a pulley attached to the alternator in my car. The pulley has been squeaking lately and I'm trying to figure out what that pulley is called. Also would it be wiser to replace the whole accessory belt system? I'd appreciate the help.

What engine?

If your alternator has a clutch pulley, then it could be a problem with the one way clutch.

Have a look at this video: (before and after pulley replacement, TDI engine, 1.8t or vr6 similar)

It could very well be the tensioner itself.

Depending on the engine, the tensioner is collapsed differently... search my YouTube channel.

Check the belt tensionier. Make sure the belt is tight. Also, exovcds has a great youtube site. Make sure to check that.
