03 tundra 3.4L 75000 miles. I am going to have the transmission serviced. A independant shop wants to use dextron 4, says it's compatable with T4 from toyota. This is alot less trouble for me than to get to a dealer. I also want to install a magnefine inline filter, does the fluid come from the trans enter into the bung on the passinger side of the radiator, exit the driver side and return to the trans? I am going to have the trans flushed I am told it takes a little over 12 qts. Thanks

My book shows Toyota JWS3309 or NWS6500. Also, yes the fluid flows through the radiator to cool it. It doesn't mix with the coolant. Also, this is only my opinion. I don't like the flush process. The trans filter doesn't get replaced and if there are any leaks at the pan, the gasket doesn't get replaced. Think about it, you are flushing clean ATF through a dirty filter. Please understand that is only my opinion.

I have been told that the 03 tundra does not have a inner filter something like a screen. And unless the fluid is really dirty it should be ok. That is why I wanted to add a inline filter. I guess I can drop the pan and check it's pretty easy because it has a drain plug. I guess my big concern is with the dextron 4 fluid instead of the T4 from toyota.

I don't have my cross reference for oil types here at home. If you want, I can check tomorrow and let you know. I work until 1PM eastern time tomorrow. Let me know. I'll be glad to check for you.

Sounds good I will check back tomorrow, also do you know if the pan is put up with flipg. I am going to check tomorrow on a filter kit to see if it comes with a gasket. I am not comfortable using flipg.

I called a buddy I work with. He just got back with me. Dexron IV is fine. There is a screen and not a typical filter. As far as the gasket, if there is no trans kit, chances are you will have to order a gasket. I think they use something similar to form a gasket from the factory.
