Cannot get the engine compartment open

I have a 2003 MR2 Spider and I cannot get the engine compartment open. Do you know a work around to get it open to repair it?

did the cable break??

is the latch moving??

It doesn't look like the latch is moving. I can not tell about the cable. It is enclosed in the body. I tried to look under the car for the cable but you can not get to it or see it. I have not taken the latch off on the inside yet, my next step, but would like to get to the engine until I figure it out.

Use a ruler to gently pry the lid while you have someone pulling at the cable to see if it works.
