2003 Toyota Landcruiser Shock absorbers

2003 TOYOTA LANDCRUISER
125,000 MILES • 3.0L • 4 CYL • TURBO • 4WD • AUTOMATIC

One of the rear shock absorbers is leaking and needs replacing. The other is fine with no leak. I am being told I must replace both together. Is this necessary? Or just better?

you don't just replace one shock they must be done in pair for SAFETY and ride ability.

Thanks. I do basically trust my garage, but it seemed very odd.
