when sitting still, and shifting either from reverse or neutral into drive, when my foot is not on the break pedal, there is a hesitation then shifts hard into gear...... how ever if I have my foot on the break pedal when shifting from reverse or neutral into drive, it seems to shift smoothly and normal into drive........ what would cause this hard shifting part of the time?????

First thing is this is not the normal way to be driving.

Secondly, the problem could be due to worn engine mounts, CV inner shaft joints exessive clearance or suspension bushes.
