I am replacing the thermostat and am in the process of putting everything back on. The boots on the lower manifold to the plenum have a type of clamp I haven't used before.

Hello,

Those boots use pinch style clamps. You will need a clamp plier to remove and install those clamps. Many times, they get damaged and will need to be replaced.
They can be replaced by traditional style clamps if you choose to do so.

I have attached the thermostat replacement procedure including the intake installing below for your reference.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you.
