starter runs when the key is in the on position, causing the starter to keep running

sounds like ignition switch problem.

or possibly a sticking starter soleniod? you can get starter tested? does it only do this after you start it? or does starter fire when you turn key to on?

also check the starter relay. i see 1 supplier on line is out of stock, that should tell you something?
