2003 Pontiac Aztek bad transfer case

I'm thinking about buying this car and I'm wondering what is a bad transfer case and how much will it cost to fix. Is it still driveable

Given that this car is front wheel drive (at least primarily). The transfer case should refer to the actual transmission itself. If it is bad then no you will most likely not be able to drive it. I would suggest not driving it. Cost to replace will probably be in ball park of $3000.
