My 2003 Nissan Xterra SE seems to misfiring/jerking when I am accelerating, specifically when I am in 3rd gear. There is a high pitched screech that is heard during this symptom as well. There is no check engine light that is on. What do you think is the problem and what diagnosis process should I proceed with?

check fuel pressure and hook up a vacuum gauge to intake manifold. if it's 15" or less suspect a partially clogged converter. also check for a vacuum leak, hoses off/pinched/holes etc.
