My Pulsar is losing power especially up hill and seems to have a bad flat spot....it is also hard to start although there seems to be plenty of spark. What is the likely cause?

Yes the engine check light is on.

That would mean something is wrong an the error has been detected by the engine computer to turn the MIL on to let you know.
You need to retrieve the trouble codes and find out what is causing it. Most parts stores provides free scanning services.
