whirring noise when clutch pedal is depressed

When the car is idling, and the clutch pedal is depressed there is an intermittent whirring noise. This stops happening when the pedal is released or put into gear. Any suggestions?

Have the clutch assembly checked-sounds like the pressure plate is defective
