I have a 2003 Nissan Frontier XE 4wd with 136k miles. When I turn steering wheel left or right, there is some sort of rubbing sound and I can also feel it in the steering wheel. There was a steering column recall this year regarding corrosion that could develop in the lower steering column joint and limit movement of the joint and could create excessive load on the lower steering column shaft and could lead to cracking of the shaft. Could that be contributing to the steering wheel problem?

Your just going to have to have someone turn the wheel while you listen for the noise to figure out where the noise is coming from. But i would get that recall done if it hasnt been done yet.
