Car won't shift to park

My car won't shift to R or P and is stuck on D and N only. I can't get it to park preventing me from removing the keys. I'm wondering what's wrong with it and what i can do to fix it. I got it to P twice but it's random.

if you can move from drive to neutral, that tells me it isn't the shift solenoid. Therefore, check the linkage itself.

Basically, the shifter linkage runs from the shifter in the car to the transmission. Check to see if something has come apart, is damaged, or just loose.
