I have heard from a friend that reconditioned gears are available. I live in South Africa and Mercedes are charging a fortune. Do you know where I can purchase reconditioned gears or else where I can get the parts at a reasonable price?

Reconditioned gears? I have never heard of that and I don't know why you would even consider it. The savings can't be more than $30. The fortune is for the considerable labor to repair it.
