Check for a water pump leak. Pump located on the right side of bank #2 under the cam pulley. Definately change the thermostat. As for the oil light, I know these trucks are known for oil pressure switch problems. Even low base idle can cause it. If you have access to a oil pressure gage tester check your oil pressure.

Check for coolant leaks. If there are none and the coolant is full, check to make sure the radiator looks clean. Flush the cooling system and replace the thermostat if needed. As far as the oil light, make sure the RPM's are not going very low. Also, make sure the oil is clean, full, and there is no coolant mixing with it. If needed, you may have to check oil pressure with a mechanical gauge that most parts stores will lend to you.
