Why would you want to remove it? The caliper simply slides off of it.

Makes sense. However the brake pads prevent the removal. How do I get the pads off seems they must slide on the caliper frame

The brake pads stay in their holder. The caliper pivots up on the slide pin and then slides off after it's high enough to clear the pads.
