2003 Lincoln Navigator Running Boards Mind There Own Passanger Side Comes Out

My running boards have a mind of there own, the passanger side comes out when the door is open, but my drivers side running board stop comming out all together. Is there something I can check before taking it to the shop, or can I just stop the boards from coming out all together because there driving me crazy. As long as it wouldnt scew up anything else, please help me figure this out if u can, thankyou ,Anthony

there is a motor that operates the boards that fails as it is exposed to the outside elements.

it has to be tested to see if it is being commanded to work
