Freelander 2003 Serengeti TD Misfiring on Idle and through all gears (engine light comes on and off)

Mechanic has checked it out today replaced Air Filter . Electronics test only showed reduced pressure. The engine light comes on sometimes. Sometimes it has trouble starting. On idle the rev counter jumps. Sometimes it misfires worse than others
