Gear problems

I have a 03 reg kia sedona and I can't select 1st gear without it making a sqealing noise, also struggle to get 3rd and 5th but can get em and drive, any ideas what wrong

Trans maybe low on fluid check it. Or pressure plate for clutch may be going or clutch pedal throw is insufficient to completely release clutch causing drag on trans.
