You do not need to remove the dashboard to get to the heater core. You can access it byu taking the lower heater box off underneath the dash. It is in the caneter, but you will probably have to remove the box to its right which covers the blower motor. Generally most of wht you will be dealing with are phillips number two screws and body clips and plugs that pull straight out by gently pulling on them. Usually they will hold up and push bak into place. There are not set instructions fo rits remeoval as tthere are som many little pices you may have to remove along the way. You just have to work your way to the heater box cover. You will have to dis-connect to cables and socntrols that come form the control panel out of the back of the dash and run to the heater box. Note the position of the dash control setting and the postion of the cable and the lever you remove it from so you can set it back into place when re-installing. Otherwise that is about all you ca nfind in a service manual.
The coolant will need to be drained.
The heater core is probably held to the firewall by a screw or nut on the firewall in between the heater hoses or near them.
