Why won't my tailgate lock after replacing it?

I replaced my 2003 tailgate with a 2004 tailgate. All other funtions work properly except that the tailgate does not lock. Also on interior command center it says gate open all the time even when door is closed.

If the tailgate lock motor is not working, the tailgate ajar indicator would be showing. You need to check the Body Control Module, wiring and tailgate motor functions. If problem started only after replacement of the tailgate, test the motor and wiring connections.
