This part can go by various names, but while it could indeed be defective, the diagnostic fault code did not say to replace it. Fault codes never say to replace parts or that they're bad. They only indicate the circuit or system that needs further diagnosis, or the unacceptable operating condition. First you need to inspect the wiring and connector terminals, then do some electrical checks before narrowing the problem down to the part. In this case there are almost a dozen fault codes related to the sensor and they mean very different things. You need to list the exact code number and the symptoms to determine how to proceed. If you just replace the sensor, there is only about a 50 percent chance that will solve whatever is acting up.
The "neutral switch", also called the "transmission range sensor", is located at the left rear of the transmission.
