2003 Hyundai Tiburon its accelerating on its own

My tiburon will jump to 3500 rpm by its self and when its in gear it will accelerate and then stop for a second and accelerate again by its self

Is the Check Engine Light indicating and have you checked for trouble codes?
Was anything done prior to this occurring?

I have not checked the codes but the theck engine light is on it runs great most of the time but its been doing this off a nd on I've only owned it for a month or so I'm not sure if anything else has been done
