Clicking noise

My car is making a clicking noise when I am at a stop, my car is in park, or my foot is off the gas. Sometimes it is quieter then others but it is a pretty fast like click click click. It does not make it when I am driving at normal speeds. Someone looked at it and said it is coming from the transmission and I shouldn't bother. But I can not help to think it is something else.

Our 2003 Hyundai Elantra (just over 100,000) just started doing the same thing. When we stop and put the car in park or neutral we hear the same fast clicking noise. We took it into the shop and we were told that it was not an engine noise. It appears to come from the transmission area. We were not encouraged to inspect it further either, but are still wondering.
