my engine management light came on so I got a hyundai mechanic (friend of a friend) to read code to which he immediately asked me if there was oil in engine. He checked stick to reveal nothing on the stick. He then went on about variable valve timing and that sensor would come on if oil too low. He topped it to max. and reset and said that was it.

my question is wouldnt the oil light have came on if it were too low and not the management light?
