2003 Honda Stream Check engine light plus noise

Thanks. What would you say if I also told you that up until now engine ran whisper quiet, now I hear a "sewing machine" noise with engine on and the check engine light (knock sensor) is intermittent, and other than adding oil every couple of weeks (garage could not find leak or evidence of burning oil), I have no other performance issues. Do you think it is just the sensor or valves/pistons are worn out?
