Yesterday my car was revving really high when I turned it on but I drove it up to the gas station, once I put it in park it would not come out of park. I was finally able to put the key in the gear shift to get it in drive and drive home. A friend who is a mechanic came over and "fixed" the problem which he said was the throttle cord (or something with the throttle) was stuck. I drove it this morning to work which is about 8-10 miles away and it was not revving the whole way here however once I put it in park again it started revving higher (not as high as yesterday) and I could get it out of park luckily. Also my brakes are really sensitive right now and when I am not braking my car seems to be coasting a little instead of just being stopped. Please help.

Definitely seems like the throttle is sticking open. If the car is creeping forward easily when you are not on the brakes but are "stopped" then your mechanic was right likely.

Did he/she say what the next course of action was?

Thank you for the quick response. He said that he fixed the throttle sticking but still seems to be creeping a little today and revving higher when I put it in park after driving. What should be the next step?

try cleaning the throttle plate on both sides and iac hole with choke cleaner. then have a pro check it for a bad cable if it continues don't drive it.

My car now is only a little higher revving when in park and it is still doing the thing where when I am not pushing the brake my car moves more than I used to. Any idea what can cause that?

have a pro look at this it may be just a bad throttle cable or maybe a trans problem.
