I got my car battery changed and now the side with the positive and negative sites are on the opposite side. Because they are now sticking up on the opposite side the metal stick that holds up my hood does not fit into place. I only noticed because when I drove I was hearing a metal grinding sound. Needles to say it was the metal stick bouncing around on my engine. Does this mean it is the incorrect battery?

Yes, you have installed the wrong battery.

Batteries comes in 2 different categories, the positive side is at left or on right when viewed with terminals nearer to you.
