You find a different mechanic who has a scanner that will read the anti-lock brake system diagnostic fault codes. That will indicate the circuit or system that needs further diagnosis. The computer detected a problem, turned those systems off, set the appropriate fault code, and turned the lights on to tell you. The lights will go off when the problem is identified and fixed, and the code is erased.
