2003 Holden Commodore Fuel Gauge Playing Over Place Half Full Quarter Less

my fuel gauge is playing up ,it is all over the place ,it says half full when i know it is quarter or less .Do i need to test something or replace a sender unit & if so how do i do it.

probably is a faulty sender unit, if its a steel tank, undo the fuel lines and electrical connections at the back of the tank near the diff and remove the 6 screws, the sender will come out, there is a return line in the tank that you have to undo its a bugger to get to and make sure that the tank is near empty or or you will get covered in fuel, this is best done on a hoist.
