i hear and feel a knocking noise in my steering wheel when i am driving and turning 2003 gmc yukon slt

Watch the two-piece steering shaft under the hood for looseness while a helper turns the steering wheel rapidly back and forth about 1/8th turn each way. If you see or feel the looseness there, replace the assembly. Tie rod ends, ball joints, and control arm bushings can make knocking noises too. An alignment specialist can usually find the cause during an inspection.
