2003 Gmc Sonoma Retaining Tabs On Parking Brake Cable Connects Park Pedal

The retaining tabs on the parking brake cable (where it connects to the Park Brake Pedal Assembly) are really hard to reach. I'm having trouble releasing the tabs (and the cable) from the Pedal Assembly. Any hints for me? thanks!

there are a set of special pliers to compress the clips all at once to release the cable. parts stores carry the tool.
