Need help deciding whether to repair or buy another car.

I have a 2003 Ford Taurus that has already been totaled due to hail damage. Instead of giving it to the insurance company, I kept it on a salvage title to try and use until I finished college. I found out today that the transmission is bad and I need to decide whether to pony up the 1500-2000 to fix it or just get what I can for it and buy another used car. With the car already being totaled is there any way I can justify paying $2000 to get it repaired, or am I better off just finding another good used to car for $4-5000?

There a lot of factors here like condition of engine and the rest of the car?As far as a salavage value its not worth much especailly because of the bad hail damage.I dont know how good you made out with the insurance company as far as what they gave you and how much they sold you the car for. If you you were good at working on cars you may be able to find a used transmission and put it in yourself and save that money there.
